Government Procurement

The various ministries and other government organizations are responsible for procuring their own required materials and services. They normally order from local representatives or from foreign sources with which they are familiar. Internationa1 calls for bids are issued, particularly for large scale projects. Requests for bids are published in the Guinean national newspaper, Horoya. There is a growing interest in investigatiny American sources of supply, although the lack of transparent procurement practices pose a major obstacle to U.S. businesses.

The American Embassy in Conakry watches all announcements of bids and promptly reports them to the U.S. Department of Commerce. American firms seriously interested in supplying equipment, materials, or services to the Guinean government or to a semipublic corporation will need reliable representation.
